     He aquí, os digo un misterio:  la noticia que realmente domina el mundo entero no es la del COVID19. 

     Un misterio es una verdad no fácil de comprender, algo que parece imposible o falso, pero en realidad es posible y fiable, aunque tal vez no podemos entender o explicarlo de una manera satisfecha a nuestras preferencias.  Un misterio no conforma con nuestras expectativas naturales, sino que nos revela algo mejor, algo más alto, algo divino. 

     No hay ningún misterio sobre cuál es el tema que, aparentemente, está dominando el mundo entero hoy.  Ayer vi una sorpresa, la noticia de que cinco directivos del club de fútbol de Barcelona dimitieron en bloque, en protesta contra el presidente por, no sé qué.  No me importa, no soy un “azulgrana,” pero me alegré de ver una noticia que no tuvo que ver con el virus, o su impacto.  Ciertamente, parece que, como nunca antes en nuestras vidas, una sola historia está dominando la vida, mente y corazón de toda la raza humana.  Pero las apariencias engañan. 

     La realidad es que el COVID19, por toda su importancia, no domina el mundo.  Os digo un misterio: lo que verdaderamente domina el mundo entero es la persona y la voluntad del DOMINUS, la voluntad del SEÑOR Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. 

     Cierto que esto no es obvio a todos.  Además, hay un montón de “pretendientes al trono,” desde la ciencia, a la cultura popular de libertad sexual absoluta, a la economía, a la hermandad de la humanidad.  Y ahora, un virus microscópico se presenta como el poder dominante en el mundo.  Pero no es así.  El universo está guiado y controlado por Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, Él quien viene a nosotros hoy con una pregunta sencilla, a través de San Marcos:  ¿Qué significa el sepulcro vacío?  Aquí tenemos la cuestión clave.    

     La multitud de pretendientes al trono del SEÑOR muestra en sí esta verdad.  Estamos siempre esforzándonos para justificarnos a nosotros mismos, y ante el mundo.  Defendemos ferozmente a nuestras opiniones y sabiduría, mientras intentamos ignorar la justicia distinta que está revelada por la tumba vacía.

Por ejemplo: 

            El participar, como hombre y mujer, en la creación de un bebé es entre las obras más profundas que podemos hacer.  Es participar en una obra divina, la creación de nueva vida.  Sin embargo, por causa de nuestro rechazo natural al SEÑOR, protestamos que el sexo es un derecho de placer para la felicidad de cada persona, un capricho individual.  Verdad, nuestro placer a veces puede tener una consecuencia, pero una consecuencia no tan importante, este bebé.  Para defender nuestro placer, es imprescindible que no dejamos que este pequeño ser, al principio de tamaño microscópico, nos limite en nuestra libertad.  Hoy en día hay un alboroto constante intentando demostrar y justificar la libertad sexual, lo que resulta en menos amor conyugal y familiar, menos bebés, menos felicidad, y una tristeza profunda, que infecta a muchas más personas que el COVID19.         

      Otro ejemplo de un pretendiente al trono del SEÑOR es la economía.  Mayormente, parece que hemos dominado la destreza de sacar la comida y la ropa y el refugio de la tierra, es decir, de construir y mantener una buena economía.  En vez de dar gracias a Dios por la cornucopia de bienes de la que disfrutamos, nos imaginamos maestros del universo, ricos sin preocupación.  El poder de un virus para desequilibrarnos en esta área nos recuerda de la verdad que cada uno de nosotros dependemos extremadamente de otros y de un sistema que no entendemos.  Y si fracasara el sistema económica global, muy pocos podríamos ganar nuestro pan de cada día sin sufrir mucha hambre.  

  

     Un tercer pretendiente es la cultura de elegir la muerte.  Somos seres atrapados dentro de una perspectiva temporal muy limitada.  Tan largo nos parece una vida típica de 70, 80 o 90 años, que no prestamos atención al hecho que cada uno marcha diariamente a su fin.  No tememos de pensar en controlar la vida, desde elegir cuales fetos sean dignos de sobrevivir el embarazo, hasta presionar a los ancianos que salgan del mundo antes de que gasten demasiados recursos. 

     Pero viene al mundo un virus que nos amenaza con una probabilidad de muerte no tan alta, tal vez alrededor de 1 por ciento, aunque no tenemos certeza.  Pero hay un riesgo real, y de repente nos acordamos de la fragilidad de la vida, y que, en el centro de nuestra naturaleza, tememos morir.  Queremos vivir.  Pero no sabemos cómo. 

     Hoy, el SEÑOR Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, nos invita levantar nuestras cabezas, para ver la piedra grande removida de la puerta de un sepulcro vacío, y contemplar:  ¿Qué significa esta noticia?  ¿Puede ser qué el SEÑOR, a pesar de todo lo que nos parece tan imprescindible, nos está indicando que en verdad es Él que tiene el control del universo?  ¿Qué significa la tumba vacía?

   Bueno, un cínico, o un realista, o simplemente una persona normal, podría oír la afirmación que Dios, Padre, Hijo y el Espíritu Santo, está controlando todo y respondiera: “¡Qué Dios tan malvado!  Si de verdad tiene control de todo, ¿por qué?  ¿Por qué no haces que las cosas sean mejores?  ¿Por qué el SEÑOR deja existir el COVID19, o el hambre, el abuso, y el odio?  Si el carácter del SEÑOR es así,” dice el hombre natural, “entonces no quiero nada que ver con Él.”

     Para la persona que piensa así: He aquí, te digo un misterio:  Aunque es duro, estás en el camino.  Aunque estás enojado con Dios, al menos Él ha captado tu atención.  Has sido despertado del sueño que algo o alguien otro domina el universo, otro que el SEÑOR Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo. Ahora, escúchame, porque con el sepulcro vacío, Dios quiere enseñarte la verdad, quiere mostrarte la realidad, y su gran amor para contigo. 

     Demos gracias a Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, que Él no sigue la forma de este mundo, nuestra forma de pensar.  Corremos de un lado al otro de nuestra vida, o en estos días de aislamiento, de un lado al otro de nuestro hogar, esforzándonos a encontrar una solución de los problemas de la vida, de la inquietud y descontento que nos abruman tan fácilmente.  Pensamos que podemos y debemos controlar nuestro destino.  Queremos controlar nuestro destino.  Queremos justificar nuestra existencia, pero no podemos.  Porque el único destino justo y bueno es Dios mismo, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, la fuente de toda existencia.  La fuente de todo amor. 

     En amor el SEÑOR deja que el mundo, el diablo, y nuestra propia naturaleza nos bofetean y nos hieren, esperando la oportunidad de revelarnos el misterio tras la tumba vacía.  No intentes penetrar a los misterios inalcanzables.  Cuando exigimos del SEÑOR una explicación conforme a nuestra lógica y nuestras preferencias, perdemos todo.   Porque los pensamientos y caminos del SEÑOR Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo son demasiado grandes para nuestro entendimiento. 

   Hay un solo Dios, quien es tres, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.  No podemos cuadrar este círculo.  No podemos dominar este misterio.  Pero sí podemos adorarlo, y confiar en ello.  Porque, oculto en simple vista, allí dentro del mismo Nombre de Dios, revelado a nosotros en el Bautismo de Jesús, e impuesto a nosotros en nuestro lavamiento por el agua y el Espíritu, allí encontramos el misterio del universo.  En el Nombre Santo encontramos el poder que domina y controla todo, para nuestro bien. 

     Y he aquí, os digo un misterio, este poder no es ningún poder, según nuestro concepto, porque este poder es amor, el amor que es el SEÑOR Dios, Padre, Hijo, y Espíritu Santo.  Todas las cosas malas de esta vida, el abuso, el hambre, el frío y el calor insoportable, el miedo, la enfermedad, el odio, la soledad y la muerte, todas estas cosas, para las cuales solemos acusar a Dios, todas estas cosas el Padre, Hijo, y Espíritu Santo han resuelto.  Son resueltos en la historia que domina el universo, la noticia que nos está revelada en el sepulcro vacío. 

     Porque es el Padre que, en amor por la creación destruida por la rebeldía humana, envió el Hijo, para emprender varios misterios: su encarnación, su humillación, su servicio humilde, su sufrimiento, su muerte sustitutiva, y su resurrección triunfante, misterios que resultan en la tumba vacía, el icono del amor del DOMINUS.  El amor del SEÑOR nos otorga el intercambio feliz:  nuestro pecado y muerte a Jesucristo, para que recibamos su justicia y vida; nuestra vergüenza e impureza a Él, para recibir su honor y santidad; nuestro exilio y aislamiento merecido, sufrido por Él, para que recibamos una plaza en su reino, nuestro hueco propio en su familia eternal.

     He aquí, os digo un misterio, en Cristo Jesús, crucificado, levantado y reinando ahora mismo a la diestra de Dios Padre, tenemos garantizada esta promesa: No todos dormiremos; pero todos seremos transformados, ⁵² en un momento, en un abrir y cerrar de ojos, a la trompeta final; porque se tocará la trompeta, y los muertos serán resucitados incorruptibles, y nosotros seremos transformados.

     ⁵³ Porque es necesario que esto corruptible se vista de incorrupción, y esto mortal se vista de inmortalidad.  ⁵⁴ Y cuando esto corruptible se haya vestido de incorrupción, y esto mortal se haya vestido de inmortalidad, entonces se cumplirá la palabra que está escrita: Devorada es la muerte en victoria.

     Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, vivid estos días de pandemia, y cada día del resto de tu vida terrenal, en y por la Palabra del Espíritu Santo, que os limpia y os alimenta con el amor que es Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, y así podréis cantar con San Pablo:  ¿Dónde está, oh muerte, tu aguijón? ¿Dónde, oh sepulcro, tu victoria?  ⁵⁶ ya que el aguijón de la muerte es el pecado, y el poder del pecado, la ley.   ⁵⁷ Mas gracias sean dadas a Dios, que nos da la victoria por medio de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Amén, y Amén.

¡Cristo ha resucitado!  ¡El SEÑOR ha resucitado en verdad! ¡Aleluya!

The News that Dominates

   Behold, I tell you a mystery: the news that really dominates the entire world is not that of COVID19. 

   A mystery is a truth not easy to understand, something that seems impossible or false, but in reality it is possible and reliable, although perhaps we cannot understand or explain it in a way that meets our preferences. A mystery does not conform to our natural expectations, but reveals something better, something higher, something divine. 

   There is no mystery as to what story is apparently dominating the entire world. Yesterday I saw a surprise, the news that five directors of the Barcelona football club resigned en bloc, in protest against the president for, I don't know what. And I do not care, I am not a Barcelona fan, but I was glad to see a news item that had nothing to do with the virus, or its impact. Indeed, it seems that, like never before in our lives, one story is dominating the life, mind and heart of the entire human race. But appearances are deceiving. 

   The reality is that COVID19, for all its importance, does not dominate the world. I tell you a mystery: what truly dominates the entire world is the person and the will of the DOMINUS, the will of the LORD God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 

     It is true that this is not obvious to everyone. Furthermore, there are plenty of claimants to the throne, from science, to the popular culture of absolute sexual freedom, to the economy, to the brotherhood of humanity. And now, a microscopic virus is presented as the dominant power in the world. But it's not like that. The universe is guided and controlled by God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, He who comes to us today with a simple question, through Saint Mark: What does the empty tomb mean? Here we have the key question. 

   The multitude of claimants to the throne of the LORD shows itself this truth. We are always striving to self-justify, to  ourselves, and to the world. We fiercely defend our opinions and wisdom, while trying to ignore the different justice that is revealed by the empty tomb. 

   For example: 

            Participating as a man and a woman in the creation of a baby is among the most profound works we can do.  It is to participate in a divine work, the creation of new life. Nevertheless, because of our natural rejection of the LORD, we protest that sex is a right of pleasure for the happiness of each person, an individual pleasure.  True, it can sometimes come with a consequence, this baby. Therefore, to defend our pleasure, it is essential that we do not let this tiny being, at the beginning of microscopic size, limit us in our freedom. There is constant fuss trying to demonstrate and justify human sexual freedom, resulting in less marital and family love, fewer babies, less happiness, and a deep sadness that infects many more people than COVID19.         

    Another example of a pretender to the throne of the LORD is the economy.  For the most part, it seems that we have mastered the skill of extracting food and clothing and shelter from the land, that is, of building and maintaining a good economy. Instead of thanking God for the cornucopia of goods that we enjoy, we imagine ourselves masters of the universe, rich without worry. The power of a virus to knock us off balance us in this area reminds us of the truth that each of us depends to the extreme on others and on a system that we do not understand. And if the global economic system were to fail, very few of us could earn our daily bread without suffering a lot of hunger.  

           We are beings trapped within a very limited time perspective. So long does a typical life of 70, 80 or 90 years seem to us, that we do not pay attention to the fact that daily each one of us marches to our end. We do not fear to think about controlling life, from choosing which fetuses are worth to survive the pregnancy, to pressuring the elderly to leave the world before they spend too many resources. But a virus comes, that threatens us with a probability of death not that high, perhaps around 1 percent, although we are not sure.  But there is a real risk, and suddenly we remember the fragility of life, and that, at the center of our nature, we fear dying.  We want to live.  But we don’t know how. 

     Today, the LORD God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, invites us to lift up our heads, to see the large stone removed from the door of an empty tomb, and contemplate: What does this news mean? Could it be that the LORD, despite everything that seems so essential to us, is indicating to us that it is He who is in control of the universe? What does the empty tomb mean?

    Well, a cynic, or a realist, or just a normal person, might hear the claim that God, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, is controlling everything and respond: “What an evil LORD. If you really have control of everything, why? Why don´t you make things better? Why does the LORD allow COVID19 to exist, or hunger, abuse, and hatred? If the character of the LORD is like this,” says the natural man, “then I want nothing to do with Him.” 

     For the person who thinks so, behold, I tell you a mystery: Although it is hard, you are on the way. Although you are angry with God, at least He has captured your attention. You have been awakened from the dream that something or someone else dominates the universe other than the LORD God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.   Now, listen to me, because with the empty tomb, God wants to teach you the truth, the reality, and his great love for you. 

     Let us thank God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, that He does not follow the way of this world, our way of thinking. We run from one side to the other of our life, or in these days of isolation, from one side to the other of our home, striving to find a solution to the problems of life, a solution to the restlessness and discontent that so easily overwhelm us. We think that we can and should control our destiny. We want to control our destiny. We want to justify our existence, but we cannot. Because the only just and good destiny is the God Himself, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the source of all existence. The source of all love. 

   In love the LORD lets the world, the devil, and our very nature slap us and injure us, waiting for the opportunity to reveal the mystery behind the empty tomb.  Don't try to penetrate the unreachable mysteries.  When we demand an explanation according to our logic and our preferences, we lose everything.  Because the thoughts and ways of the LORD God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit are too great for our understanding. 

   There is only one God, who is three, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We cannot square this circle. We cannot master this mystery. But we can adore it, and trust it. Because, hidden in plain sight, there within the very Name of God, revealed to us in the Baptism of Jesus, and imposed on us in our washing by the water and the Spirit, is the mystery of the universe. In the Holy Name we find the power that dominates and controls everything, for our good. 

     And behold, I tell you a mystery, this power is not power, according to our concept of power, because this power is love, the love that is the LORD God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. All the bad things in this life, abuse, hunger, unbearable heat and cold, fear, disease, hatred, loneliness and death, all these things, for which we usually accuse God, all these things the Father , Son, and Holy Spirit have resolved.  They are resolved in the history that dominates the universe, and that is revealed to us in the empty tomb. 

   Because it is the Father who, in love for creation destroyed by human rebellion, sent the Son, to undertake various mysteries: his incarnation, his humiliation, his humble service, his suffering, his substitutionary death, and his triumphant resurrection, mysteries that result in the empty tomb, the icon of the love of the DOMINUS. The love of the LORD grants us the happy exchange: our sin and death to Jesus Christ, so that we receive his justice and life; our shame and impurity to Him, to receive His honor and holiness; our exile and deserved isolation suffered by Him, so that we receive a seat in his kingdom, our own spot in his eternal family. 

    Behold, I tell you a mystery, in Christ Jesus, crucified, raised and reigning right now at the right hand of God the Father, we have this promise guaranteed: Not all of us will sleep; but we will all be transformed, ⁵² in a moment, in the blink of an eye, to the final trumpet; for the trumpet will be blown, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we will be transformed. 

     ⁵³ For this corruptible must be clothed with incorruption, and this mortal must dress as immortality.  ⁵⁴ And when this corruptible has clothed itself with incorruption, and this mortal has clothed itself with immortality, then the written word will be fulfilled: Death is swallowed up in victory.  

     Brothers and sisters in Christ, live these days of pandemic, and every day of the rest of your earthly life, in and by the Word of the Holy Spirit, who cleanses and nourishes you with the love that is God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit. And so you will be able to sing with Saint Paul: Where, oh death, is your sting? Where, oh grave, your victory?  ⁵⁶ for the sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.  ⁵⁷ But thanks be to God, who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ, Amen, and Amen.  

Christ has risen.  He is risen indeed, Hallelujah!

    ¿Qué está haciendo?  ¿Qué quiere lograr Jesús con estas palabras y obras, tan controversiales?  ¿Está seguro que la cuestión vaya a terminar cómo quiere?

    Todas las personas alrededor de Jesús están llenas de dudas.  Jesús aceptó la unción con perfume de la mujer en Betania como preparación funeral.  Luego orquestó la Entrada Triunfal el Domingo de Ramos, dando rabia a los fariseos y sacerdotes, por no decir nada de darlos una acusación concreta para denunciarlo a los romanos. Ya antes del lunes de esta semana fundamental Jesús había confundido la lógica humana totalmente.  Y durante la semana, peor: discusiones en el Templo y ataques verbales contra las autoridades judías, enseñanzas apocalípticas, afirmaciones radicales.  Finalmente, el certidumbre y confianza para redefinir la Pascua de los Judíos, con referencia a su propia muerte.  Después, rechazó la voluntad por parte de sus propios discípulos de fomentar una rebelión, y se sometió al arresto, tortura y humillación de los sacerdotes y los romanos.  Fue con calma a Calvario, enfrentando sin vacilar al peor que pudiera hacer los seres humanos.  Además, aceptó el castigo de su propio Padre celestial.  ¿Quién puede entender su objetivo, su plan, o de dónde saca su certeza?

     Esta Semana Santa, como nunca jamás en nuestra memoria, la población mundial está sufriendo de una falta a la extrema de certidumbre.  ¿Quién sabe con certeza cuándo o cómo vayamos a salir de esta crisis sanitaria?  ¿Qué es el peligro real del Coronavirus, COVID19?  ¿Cuáles medidas son correctas, para España, el mundo, o para mi propia familia?  ¿Quién sabe con certeza?   Nadie.  Damos gracias al Señor por el internet lo cual nos permite mantener contacto con amigos y familiares, y que nos facilita continuar “reuniéndonos” como Iglesia, y para muchos, seguir trabajando de distancia.  Pero el mismo red mundial nos inunda con información, historias fantásticas, teorías opuestas, página tras página.  La tentación de ponernos a ser investigadores es grande, buscando la verdad sobre la crisis para llegar a un nivel de certeza.  Pero la certeza nos escapa.  ¡Oh, cómo deseamos la certeza!

     Hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, doy gracias al Señor que, en medio de esta crisis, estamos celebrando la Semana Santa.  Yo aborrezco el hecho que no podemos reunirnos en persona para recordar y celebrar la semana más importante de toda la historia humana.  Pero no pudiera haber un leccionario mejor para ayudarnos recuperar la certeza cristiana, textos que nos hacen meditar de nuevo en la obra santa de Cristo Jesús, su obra de certeza perfecta. 

     Antes de la fundación del mundo, el Santo, Santo, Santo Dios, Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, sabía sin duda la fecha y los acontecimientos de esta semana, que el Creador, el eterno Dios, en la persona del Hijo, iba a unirse con su creación, tomando la naturaleza del hombre dentro de su santo y divino ser, haciéndose igual como nosotros en todas maneras, salvo sin pecado. 

¿Y para qué?  Ciertamente no para liderar una victoria según nuestra expectativa, tampoco para restaurar el reino terrenal de David.  Porque el rey David, y todos los demás, todos, eran el problema.  Jesús tuvo que revelar la debilidad de todos, aun de sus propios discípulos y amigos, porque la verdad acerca de los hijos del hombre es que “se han corrompido, han cometido hechos abominables; no hay quien haga el bien.  ² El Señor ha mirado desde los cielos sobre los hijos de los hombres para ver si hay alguno que entienda, alguno que busque a Dios. ³ Todos se han desviado, a una se han corrompido; no hay quien haga el bien, no hay ni siquiera uno.  (Salmos 14 y 53:1-3)  No había esperanza real entre los hombres, porque todos nosotros somos corrompidos, desde nuestra concepción. 

    No obstante, Jesús tenía certeza perfecta en su plan.  No porque fuera fácil ni agradable, sino porque, siendo Dios mismo, el eterno Hijo del Padre, Jesús sabía la verdad que es más grande que nuestro pecado y ruina, aún más grande que el odio y envidia de satanás:  Jesús sabía que Dios es amor. 

     Cuando pasamos tribulaciones, queremos más que nada estar con nuestros queridos, de experimentar el amor que recibimos como bebes, el amor que fluyó de nosotros que somos padres, sin que sabíamos de dónde venía este amor tan fuerte para nuestros hijos.  Nuestro amor familiar no es perfecto, pero es lo mejor que tenemos en este mundo.  Somos todos pecadores, pero Dios en su bondad ha dejado este amor imperfecto en nuestra vida, para darnos una idea, una sombra del amor que existe entre el Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.  Si pudiéramos multiplicar mil veces la intensidad máxima del mejor amor que hemos experimentado con nuestros queridos, todavía quedaríamos muy lejos del amor divino.  Aquel amor, inalcanzable para nosotros, es la fuente de la certeza perfecta que tenía Jesucristo, ese amor que es Dios. 

    Por eso, Dios hecho hombre, Jesucristo, aguantó todo, sufrió todo, con calma, con esperanza, para el gozo de revelar al mundo, para revelar a ti, esta buena noticia:  Aunque mereces su rechazo, Dios te ha amado de esta manera; envió a su Unigénito Hijo para quitarte todo tu debilidad, todo tu pecado, todo tu castigo y vergüenza, para aniquilarlos en su propio sufrimiento y muerte en la Cruz.  Lo hizo con la certeza perfecta de que, después de tres días, se revelaría una nueva creación, donde puedes conocer el amor real de Dios mismo. 

    Así fue la certeza de Cristo, la cual le dio la fuerza de hacer todo lo que hizo en la Semana Santa.  Y esta certeza es también tu certeza, garantizada a ti en tu bautismo, donde el Dios que es amor, el Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo, te unió con la Cruz y la Resurrección de Jesús, haciéndote un miembro de la familia de Dios, perfectamente seguro en su amor. 

     Que el Espíritu de Cristo nos ayude vivir en esta certeza, hoy, y hasta el día en que veamos a Cristo con nuestros propios ojos, Amén.

Perfect Certainty

   What is he doing? What does Jesus want to achieve with these controversial words and works? Is he sure the matter will end how he wants?

    All the people around Jesus are full of doubts. Accepting the anointing with perfume by the woman in Bethany, orchestrating the Triumphal Entrance on Palm Sunday, angering the Pharisees and Jewish priests, to say nothing of giving them a concrete accusation to denounce it to the Romans; already before Monday of this fundamental week Jesus had totally confounded human logic. And during the week, worse: arguments in the Temple and verbal attacks against the Jews, apocalyptic teachings, radical claims. Finally, the certainty and confidence to redefine the Passover of the Jews, with reference to his own death. He rejected the will to foment a rebellion on the part of his own disciples, and submitted to the arrest, torture and humiliation of the priests and the Romans. He calmly went to Calvary, facing without hesitation the worst that human beings could do, in addition, the punishment of his own heavenly Father. Who can understand his goal, his plan, or from where he gets his certainty?

     This Easter, as never before in our memory, the world population is suffering from an extreme lack of certainty. Who knows for sure when or how we will get out of this health crisis? What is the real danger of Coronavirus COVID19? What measurements are correct, for Spain, the world, or for my own family? Who knows for sure? No one. We thank the Lord for the internet that allows us to keep in touch with friends and families, which makes it easier for us to continue "gathering" as a Church, and for many, to continue working at a distance. But the same worldwide web floods us with information, fantastic stories, opposing theories, page after page. The temptation to become researchers is great, seeking the truth about the crisis to reach a level of certainty. But the certainty escapes us. Oh, how we desire certainty!

     Brothers and sisters in Christ, I thank the Lord that, in the midst of this crisis, we are celebrating Holy Week. I abhor the fact that we cannot meet in person to remember and celebrate the most important week in all of human history, but there could not be a better lectionary to help us regain Christian certainty, meditating again on the holy work of Jesus Christ, his work of perfect certainty.

     Before the foundation of the world, the Holy, Holy, Holy God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, knew without a doubt the date and the events of this week, that the Creator, the eternal God, in the person of the Son, was going to unite with his creation, taking the essence of the guilty man into his spotless being, just like us in every way, except without sin. And for what? Certainly not to lead a victory according to our expectation, nor to restore David's earthly kingdom. Because King David, and everyone else, everyone, was the problem. Jesus had to reveal the weakness of everyone, even his own disciples and friends, because the truth about the sons of man is that “they have been corrupted, they have committed abominable acts; There is no one who does good. 2 The Lord has looked down from heaven on the children of men to see if there is anyone who understands, someone who seeks God. 3 They have all turned aside, they have all been corrupted; there is no one who does good, there is not even one. (Psalms 14 and 53: 1-3) There was no real hope among men, because all of us are corrupted, from our conception.

    Nevertheless, Jesus had perfect certainty in his plan. Not because it was easy or pleasant, but because, being God Himself, the eternal Son of the Father, Jesus knew the truth that is greater than our sin and ruin, even greater than the hatred and envy of satan: Jesus knew that God is love.

     When we go through tribulations, we want more than ever to be with our loved ones, to experience the love we received as babies, the love that flowed from us who are parents, without knowing from where this strong love for our children came. Our family love is not perfect, but it is the best we have in this world. We are all sinners, but God in his goodness has left this imperfect love in our lives, to give us an idea, a shadow of the love that exists between the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. If we could multiply the maximum intensity of the best love we have experienced with our dear ones a thousand times, we would still be far away from divine love. That love, unattainable for us, is the source of the perfect certainty of Christ, that love that is God.

    For this reason, God made man, Jesus Christ, endured everything, suffered everything, calmly, with hope, for the joy of revealing to the world, to reveal to you that, although you deserve his rejection, God has loved you in this way: He sent his Only Begotten Son to take away all your weakness, all your sin, all your punishment and shame, to annihilate them in their own suffering and death on the Cross. He did it with the perfect certainty that after three days, a new creation would be revealed, where you can know the real love of God himself.

     This was the certainty of Christ, which gave him the strength to do everything he during Holy Week. And this certainty is also your certainty, guaranteed to you at your baptism, where the God who is love, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, united you with the Cross and Resurrection of Jesus, making you a member of the family of God, perfectly safe in his love.

      May the Spirit of Christ help us live in this certainty, today, and until the day we see Christ with our own eyes, Amen.
